CLARK SKIRMISHERS
Company K  41st North Carolina Troops
  3rd Regiment North Carolina Cavalry
This company, originally known as "Clark Skirmishers," enlisted in Martin, Washington, Pitt, and Beaufort Counties for twelve months service.   The original recruits came principally  from Martin and Washington Counties, but a few came from Pitt and Beaufort Counties.   They were organized under an act passed by the Confederate Congress, dated August 21, 1861, for local defense and special service.   The company was mustered into Confederate States service February 7, 1862, to date from November 6, 1861, at Washington, N.C. as Captain W. Jordan Walker's Cavalry Company of North Carolina Volunteers.   The company remained at Washington until forced to retire when Federal troops advanced from New Bern.   The activities of the company are not reported after February 1862.   It can only be assumed that they were performing the same picket and scouting duties as were other companies in the same general area.   The September - October 1862 muster roll reports the company as near Hamilton, Martin County.   On September 3, 1862, the company was assigned to the 41st Regiment N.C. Troops (3rd Regiment N.C. Cavalry).   Initially designated Company G, the company was later redesignated Company K.   After that date the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history is recorded as a part of the regimental history.
The information contained in the following roster of the company was compiled from company muster rolls, which include the muster-in roll (November 6, 1861 - February 7, 1862) and muster rolls for the period from September through December 1862 and November 1863, through October 1864.   No company muster rolls were found for the period from the date of muster-in (February 7, 1862) through August 1862; January through October 1863; or after October 1864.   Although there are no Roll of Honor records for this company, useful information was obtained from receipt rolls, medical records, prisoner of war records, and other primary records, supplemented by state pension applications, United Daughters of the Confederacy records, and postwar rosters and histories.

OFFICERS AND PRIVATES
MISCELLANEOUS
The following list of men was compiled from primary records which record the unit as the 41st Regiment NC Troops (3rd Regiment NC Cavalry) but do not give the company to which they belonged.   As the names do not appear on any of the surviving muster rolls of any company in the regiment, they have been checked for possible misspelling or incorrect unit designation.   Some men appear on records created in areas where the regiment did not serve.   It is possible the individual either gave an assumed name or purposely gave incorrect unit designation.   This is particularly true with the prisoner of war records.   Since it is not possible to identify them with any company, they are recorded separately.
